The Project
Sheldon Interiors, an interior design and construction firm, has redeveloped its new Sydney office as a striking demonstration of its integrated strategy, design, construction services, and furniture manufacturing capabilities. Located in an existing brick-rich building, its design merges exposed brick windowsills and heritage masonry with warm, textural finishes for a rich, eclectic character. The concept “bold fusion”, seamlessly blends natural textures with futuristic forms, evoking warmth, creativity, and forward-thinking playfulness.

Targeting both 5-star Green Star and Gold WELL ratings, sustainability and occupant wellbeing were critical considerations throughout the project. Rosa Sayeed, senior interior designer at Sheldon Interiors, explains, “Sustainability was one of the biggest drivers behind the design. We wanted to show that just because something is sustainable doesn’t mean it can’t also be high end and beautiful.”
The Challenge
The office departs from conventional fitouts. Only one-third of the floorplan is allocated to individual workstations, supporting approximately 35 in-office staff. The central third serves as a vibrant social hub, featuring banquet seating, breakout zones, and the communal kitchen. The remaining third, the collaboration zone, includes a design library, informal amphitheater, wellness retreat, and elegant, First Nations co-designed meeting rooms featuring Willie Weston Native Seeds Olive and Pandanus Eucalypt. While these spaces showcase Sheldon’s modular joinery, fitout capabilities, and furniture innovation, they posed significant acoustic challenges.
Our team worked collaboratively alongside Sheldon to integrate acoustics into the workplace enhancing the aesthetic appeal, contributing to sustainability objectives, and reducing reverberation to deliver an acoustically comfortable environment.
In line with Green Star and WELL ratings, every specification carefully considered longevity, ethical sourcing, and reuse. “Completing this fitout under Green Star and WELL standards have given us incredible insight into how much work is involved in dual certification. Now that we’ve undergone the process ourselves, we’ll be better equipped to help our clients through this option,” says Sayeed.
The Solution
Autex Acoustics® carbon neutral status, high use of recycled content, and end of life solutions made the specification of the product an easy choice for the project. Acoustic compliance also played a pivotal role with WELL acoustic standards mandating high-performing materials.
Mirage™ Textured Panels were used throughout the workspace for their complement to the overall design vision and high-performance sound absorption. The subtle textures and warm earthy palettes were a perfect match for the office aesthetic. Seamlessly integrating into spaces, “Mirage enabled acoustic functionality and contributed to the visual narrative.”
In addition, 24 mm Cube® acoustic wall linings in Parthenon were applied throughout the office, and our Willie Weston collection brought cultural resonance and tactile richness to the First Nations co-designed meeting rooms.
Creating a Sustainable, Design-Forward Space for Work and Inspiration
The Result
The newly completed office is a dynamic environment—part creative studio, part showroom, part sustainable manifesto. The outcome is a space that feels lived-in, warm, and welcoming, yet unapologetically design-forward, a true realisation of the Sheldon design team’s “bold fusion”. Perhaps most importantly, it serves as a living case study—showcasing how high-end aesthetics, acoustic excellence, and sustainable design can coexist beautifully.
